Event Information
Event Name Auction 187 – Russia
Event Description Wednesday, March 10th, is devoted entirely to Russia. Auction 187 with its 516 lots and a total pre-sale estimate of 900.000 Euros comprise a number of numismatic treasures, beginning with an extremely rare ducat of Peter the Great made in the Red Mint in Moscow (no. 3007, very fine to extremely fine, estimate: 50.000 Euros). Another big rarity is the 12 rouble piece made of platinum, minted in 1830 under Nicholas I in Saint Petersburg of extremely fine preservation (no. 3183, estimate: 60.000 Euros). Equally rare is a gold Commemorative Medal for the Liberation of the Serfs, issued under Alexander II in 1861 (no. 3235, very fine to extremely fine, estimate: 50.000 Euros). Another gold medal from 1879 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Tsar’s patronage of the 3rd Uhlan regiment is even rarer with only 21 copies being produced (no. 3238, almost extremely fine, estimate: 50.000 Euros).
One of the sale’s highlights is an extraordinarily well preserved showpiece of the Order of the White Eagle from the reign of Nicholas II (no. 3302A, estimate: 50.000 Euros), surely one of the most beautiful orders from the 19th century!
Post-tsaristic Russia is well represented, too. Some rare patterns should be mentioned at this point, for example a pattern for the 10 kopeck piece from 1959 from the Kaim Collection (no. 3495, extremely fine to brilliant uncirculated, estimate: 15.000 Euros).
