Sulzburg near Freiburg im Breisgau. The international collectors returned – again high-quality artworks fetched premium prices at Kaupp’s.
As a result of brisk demand not only of the European but also of the Russian and US collectors auction house Kaupp was able to sell nearly all of its premium Lots.
A depiction of a boar hunt by a South German master raised from a starting price of 12.000 € to 26.000 € (Lot no. 1748, fig. 78037). A bidding frenzy of Russian collectors brought the canvas «Poverty and Wealth» by Fjodor Andreevitch Bronnikov from 3000 € to 80.000 € - world record for this artist (Lot no. 1846, fig. 79916).
Wilhelm von Kobells «Hare hunt», showing imperial prince Karl August von Bretzenheim hunting down a hare, was sold for its estimate of 80.000 € also to a russian client (Lot no. 1949, ill 78040). Likewise sold to Russia were the «Crayfishes» attributed to Arkadij Aleksandrovic Plastov. The painting escalated from 600 € to remarkable 20.000 € (Lot no. 2210, fig. 80138). As always Kaupp was able to offer various works of Carl Spitzweg. «Sunday Morning», the most remarkable among these lots, changed hands for 120.000 € (Lot no. 2068, fig. 795828).
Among the highlights of the section Modern and Contemporary art was Ludwig von Hofmanns «Elysian Landscape», knocked down for 50.000 € to a private collector (Lot no. 2148, fig. 78419). Numerous telephone bidders raised the hammer price for Max Ernsts «Venus vue de la terre» to 140.000 € (Lot no. 2134, fig. 79988). The «Palace Garden» by Lovis Corinth was sold to a Swiss collector for respectable 160.000 € (Lot no. 2127, fig. 80232).
